Co‑Founder and President, Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra Association (MYSO)

Profile

Mr. Hoi Kin Wa is Co-Founder and President of the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) Association, and a leading figure in youth music education in Macao. Trained as a violinist from an early age, he became a founding member of the Macao Chamber Orchestra in 1983 and later contributed extensively to arts administration, youth music competitions, and arts education under the Cultural Affairs Bureau.
Since establishing MYSO in 1996, Mr. Hoi has led the orchestra on international tours to more than 30 cities across Europe, the United States, Asia, and Mainland China, fostering both musical excellence and cultural exchange. He also serves as Chairman of Macao Virtuosi, co-founder of the Macao Children’s Choir, and founder and conductor of several school orchestras.
In 2022, he was appointed Executive Director and General Manager of the Macao Orchestra Company, Limited, and continues to serve on its Board of Directors, contributing to the advancement of Macao’s cultural landscape.

Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra Association/MYSO

The Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra Association (MYSO), founded in 1997, is one of Macao’s leading youth orchestras. With around 300 members aged 5 to 20, MYSO provides high-quality musical training under the guidance of distinguished instructors from renowned conservatories and professional ensembles. The orchestra has presented more than 800 performances, becoming a vital contributor to Macao’s cultural life.

Major activities include the Macao New Year’s Concert, the New Generation Musician Concert, the Anniversary Concert, and the MYSO Music Festival, which features around 30 summer performances held across UNESCO World Heritage sites. These initiatives bring classical music into the daily lives of local residents.

MYSO is also active internationally, having toured over 30 cities worldwide and performed at prestigious venues such as the Musikverein in Vienna, the Berliner Philharmonie, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Through these tours, young musicians serve as cultural ambassadors, showcasing Macao’s unique blend of Eastern and Western heritage.

More than 100 alumni have pursued professional music careers globally, reflecting MYSO’s strong educational impact. Looking ahead, the orchestra aims to deepen collaboration with youth orchestras across Asia, promoting joint tours, artistic exchanges, and youth music forums to build a vibrant regional network for young musicians.
