Profile
Mr.Ryosuke Suzuki grew up in an environment surrounded by music, accompanying his parents—both members of the Toyohashi Symphony Orchestra—to rehearsals from an early age. In the second grade, he appeared as a child actor in the opera Madama Butterfly, an experience that further deepened his connection to music. He began studying the violin during this period and later joined the orchestra club at Toyohashi Municipal Hada Junior High School under the guidance of Mr. Takeshi Shimoya, marking the start of his full-fledged musical activities. In his third year of junior high school, he became a founding member of the Toyohashi Youth Orchestra.
Throughout high school and university, he participated annually in the Toyota Youth Orchestra Camp organized by JAO, serving as Chief and later Vice Chair of the Executive Committee—demonstrating leadership not only in performance but also in organizational management. After graduation, he joined the Toyohashi Symphony Orchestra and dedicated himself to nurturing younger musicians as an instructor for the Toyohashi Youth Orchestra.
As a junior high school teacher, he served as advisor to the Hada Junior High School Orchestra Club from 2013 for ten years, leading the ensemble to five national championships, earning the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award. He currently teaches at Toyohashi Municipal Nanryo Junior High School, where he advises the brass band club and has guided the ensemble to appearances at the prefectural competition. His work spans school music education and youth development.
Suzuki studied violin under Shigeru Matsumoto. He currently serves as a teacher at Nanryo Junior High School, advisor to its brass band club, Music Director and Conductor of the Toyohashi Youth Orchestra, second violinist with the Toyohashi Symphony Orchestra, and board member of NPO-WFAO.
Toyohashi Youth Orchestra
The Toyohashi Youth Orchestra, founded in 1999, is a youth ensemble consisting of approximately 100 members ranging from junior high to university students across the Higashi-Mikawa region (Southeastern part of Aichi Prefecture). The orchestra rehearses every Sunday morning and performs a wide variety of programs—including classical repertoire, anime music, and J-POP—at its annual August concert and December Christmas performance, sharing the joy of music with the local community.
Guided by the philosophy “Connecting through music, expanding possibilities through music,” the orchestra strives to support each young musician’s desire to continue learning and improving. In addition to its main ensemble of students from the 8th grade to the fourth year of university, the orchestra operates a beginner strings course of about 50 members, providing a welcoming environment for children who are touching an instrument for the first time.
Instruction is provided by members of the Toyohashi Symphony Orchestra and alumni of the Toyohashi Youth Orchestra, ensuring a solid foundation and careful guidance. The orchestra also invites professional musicians for special training sessions. In response to the nationwide reduction of school club activities, the beginner strings course was newly established this year. Additionally, with an increasing number of members who belong to school brass bands, the orchestra is exploring new musical possibilities through “the fusion of orchestra and brass band.”
By offering the excitement of large-ensemble performance and fostering connections across schools, ages, and experience levels, the Toyohashi Youth Orchestra continues to bring fresh musical expression and inspiration to the community.
