Date : November 10, 2024
Venue : Minna no Mori Gifu Media Cosmos in Gifu City

On Sunday, November 10, 2024, the ASD Youth Ensemble “Shanghai Angel Autism Salon” gave a guest performance in Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture.

The performance was part of the “3rd Mitaniyoshi ASD Everyone’s Good Child Training Conference,” held at the Minna no Mori Gifu Media Cosmos in Gifu City. The ensemble, visiting from Shanghai, performed as a guest at this event, which was organized by the NPO Mitaniyoshi International & Universal Design as part of the “39th National Culture Festival/24th National Festival of Arts and Culture for Persons with Disabilities.”

The ensemble’s visit to Japan reflects a deep connection between its leaders, Ms. Cao Xiaoxia and the globally renowned conductor and founder, Mr. Cao Peng, and WFAO, which dates back to 2006. At that time, Shanghai had no officially recognized amateur orchestras for adults. The establishment of the “Shanghai City Symphony Orchestra” marked a significant milestone, and WFAO played a key role in supporting its creation. Leading these efforts were Mr. Cao Peng and Ms. Cao Xiaoxia, who formed a lasting relationship with WFAO that continues to this day.

In 2008, Mr. Cao Peng and Ms. Cao Xiaoxia launched the charitable project “Angel Autism Salon,” a collaboration between the Shanghai Cao Peng Music Center and the Shanghai Charity Foundation. The initiative aims to provide children with autism a means of connecting with society through music, while fostering broader understanding and acceptance of autism. This allows the children to grow and thrive in a supportive environment. The project’s achievements have been featured in global media, garnering widespread attention and acclaim.

During this year’s performance, 12 diverse groups showcased musical instrument performances and dances. The children’s confident and heartfelt dedication deeply moved the audience, resulting in rounds of applause and admiration.

Ms. Kikuko Morishita, Vice-chairperson of NPO-WFAO, was also present to show her support. Her reunion with Ms. Cao Xiaoxia allowed them to reflect on their long-standing friendship.

On November 12, the ensemble performed in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, leaving the audience with refreshing performances and joyful smiles. The ensemble returned to Shanghai, leaving lasting memories for many.
