Insights from International Educator: Taiwan (41st TYOC)
41st TOYOTA Youth Orchestra Camp (TYOC)
March 26 (Wednesday) - March 29 (Saturday), 2025
The 41st TOYOTA Youth Orchestra Camp (TYOC), hosted by the Federation of Japan Amateur Orchestras Corp. (JAO), was held in Tokyo in March 2025. The camp welcomed international participants from Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Norway. In addition to the youth orchestra members, conductors from Korea, Taiwan, and the Philippines also joined the program.
We conducted interviews with three of these distinguished educators and will be sharing them in a three-part series.
The second interview in our international educators series features Ms. Ssu-Wei Chang of the Taoyuan City Jungli Youth Orchestra in Taiwan.
Ms. Chang has been involved with TYOC since 2009, the year when NPO-WFAO began inviting international participants to the camp. Over the past 16 years, she has continuously guided Taiwanese young students through the TYOC experience, witnessing their personal and musical growth firsthand. In this interview, she shares her reflections on the long-term impact of TYOC from the perspective of a devoted educator.
