NPO-WFAO Participates in Public Lecture (JAO Festival Event)
Public Lecture: International Contributions of Amateur Orchestras
(52nd Amateur Orchestra Festival in Tokyo)

The NPO-WFAO participated in this event as part of the Operations Committee’s activities for the 52nd Amateur Orchestra Festival in Tokyo, hosted by the JAO (The Federation of Japan Amateur Orchestras Corp). The event featured a series of lectures and discussions over two hours on the theme of “International Contributions of Amateur Orchestras.”
Ms. Haruko Matsunaga from KnK delivered a presentation titled “The Potential of Music – From the Perspective of Field Activities,” where she shared experiences from the organization’s efforts to provide emotional education through music in their work with Syrian refugees.
Ms. Kikuko Morishita from NPO-WFAO gave a presentation titled “The Internationality and Diversity of Amateur Orchestra Activities.” She reviewed the organization’s ongoing international exchange activities since 1991, focusing on the significance of these initiatives from Japan.
Following the lectures, a panel discussion was held, featuring special guest Professor Edna ‘Michi’ Martinez from the University of the Philippines. Professor Michi shared her deep insights into Japan’s amateur orchestra activities, drawing on her experiences of participating in numerous WFAO and JAO events with her students.

Additionally, Mr. Naoki Matsuguchi, a board member of NPO-WFAO, spoke about the challenges and significance of the international exchange activities restarted through TYOC in 2009.
The event concluded with a commentary from Ms. Oriana Díaz, Counselor of the Venezuelan Embassy, followed by closing remarks from Mr. Goro Kamino, Chairman of NPO-WFAO, and Mr. Makoto Sekioka, Chairman of JAO. The session was summarized by Mr. Mitsuru Ito from the Sapporo Philharmonic Orchestra, who served as the moderator for the event.
